Welcome Back, Solopreneurs.
Hunter, here.
Ever since high school, I knew that I wanted to be financially free (as soon as possible). The only problem was: I had no idea how.
Conventional wisdom will tell you that you should invest in the S&P 500 for 30 years, and just maybe then, you can retire and live a "comfortable" life. But who wants to wait that long?
Not me.
The hard truth is even if you retire with enough money to live on, what are the chances you have the energy to explore the world like you once did?Pretty low. Which is why I wanted to bring some unconventional wisdom to the table.
Invest in yourself.
Society tells us to go to college, get a good job, buy a new car, get married and have a big elaborate wedding. Unfortunately, these are just traps to keep us docile and tame.
College + "Safe Job" + New car + Wedding + Ring = Mountains of debt. And your "Safe Job" Is the only thing that will keep you paying off that mountain of debt. That's why most people can never afford to leave.
The responsibilities keep stacking up, but the pay doesn't.
But you don't have to go down that road. Even if you are on that road, it's NEVER too late to turn around.
The first thing you need to do is learn new skills.
Money is simply an exchange of value. Do you want to make more money?
Then, provide more value. Don't know how to provide more value?
Learn high-value skills.
The best part is that information has never been so readily available in recent history.
You can learn how to do pretty much anything from a youtube video or a google search.
In fact, in the first 20 hours you start learning any skill, you know 80% of what you will ever learn in that skill set.
Most people just procrastinate that first hour for 20 years.
So what are high-value skills, and which ones should you learn?
High-value skills give you a competitive advantage against your competition and are recession-proof.
(Think: Data analyst, Strategic Planner, Software Engineer)
The only difference is you don't have to go to college to learn the skills that will double, triple, or 10x your income.
Copywriter
Web design
Ghostwriter
Conversion Optimizer
Lead generation
Productivity Consultant
Fitness Coach
These are all skills you can learn for free that will 10x the value you can create for someone.
Which one should you learn?
It all depends on who you are, what values you align with, and what your interests and passions are.
My advice is this:
Try out one skill, go down the rabbit hole, and if you don't find it interesting. Then move on. That's the beauty here. You get to pick anything you want to.
Don't get stuck doing something you don't actually like doing. Burnout will hit, you'll stop and wonder why it never worked. The key to making everything work is consistency. Show up every single day and work on your skills. Or you can show up every day to your 9-5, put away 20% of your income into investments, and 30 years later, you can retire on dividends. The choice is yours.
Work for someone else's dreams or work on yours.
This week, I've been working on creating a sustainable daily routine for myself. And the advice I started to implement has been a game changer.
Here's what to do:Separate your 24-hour day into 2 separate days. The first is 6 am -12 pmThe second is 12pm -6 am
This separation has allowed me to take full advantage of my day.
The first half is focused on inputs• Writing• Building• Engaging
The second half is where I focus on outputs:• Learning• Meetings• Planning
Over the course of a week, you'll put in 14 days.
After a year, you are miles ahead of the competition.
Well, that's all for this week. I'll see you next Saturday, and until then: Learn some new skills.
