TPS #36– Lessons From The Alchemist
Read Time: 4 Minutes
Hello there,
Hunter here, so glad you could join me this Saturday.
Ever found yourself on a journey of self-discovery?
Well, if you’re an entrepreneur, then I know the answer is yes.
And me too.
All thanks to a shepherd named Santiago, and a little book called 'The Alchemist.'
25th Anniversary Edition
Santiago, like you and me, had a dream. A dream of finding his own 'Personal Legend,' his purpose in life.
And along the way, he unearthed some truths that have resonated with me in an unexpected way.
Big enough to transform the way I see my entrepreneurial journey.
So, let's dive into a few of those gold nuggets. You ready?
Follow your Personal Legend
Everyone has a Personal Legend, a true desire, something we’re born to accomplish. Santiago's journey was all about finding his.
The same goes for us entrepreneurs.
You’ve got a business to run, a world to change, a legend to follow.
I mean, isn’t that why we start our ventures in the first place?
There’s a fire in your belly that won’t settle for the ordinary. So, like Santiago, keep seeking, keep moving.
But remember, it’s not just about the destination.
As Santiago discovered, it’s the journey that brings the real treasure.
But you don’t often see that until after the fact.
Embrace the Present
One of my favorite quotes from the book goes, "The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world and never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon."
Sounds cryptic, right?
But it’s simpler than you think.
In life and business, it’s easy to get so caught up in our goals that we forget to enjoy the journey.
We entrepreneurs, we’re notorious for that.
We’re always thinking about the next product, the next launch, the next quarter.
But just like Santiago, we need to learn to live in the present.
Take the time to marvel at what you’ve already created. Don’t forget the 'drops of oil on the spoon' – the daily tasks, the small wins, the process.
The most important thing we don’t realize is success isn't a destination. It's a journey.
Fear is a Bigger Obstacle than the Obstacle Itself
Santiago faced his fair share of setbacks. But every time he fell, he got up and moved forward.
In the entrepreneurial world, fear can be paralyzing.
But here’s what I realized:
The fear of failure, the fear of not being good enough, the fear of making the wrong decision – they’re often worse than the actual consequence of messing up.
Don’t let fear dictate your journey.
Mistakes? They’re just stepping stones on the path to success.
And their only big and meaningful if you want them to be.
Remember, there is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.
When You Truly Want Something, The Universe Conspires In Your Favor.
This is, perhaps, the most beautiful lesson Santiago learned.
And it’s one that I’ve found to be the most impactful in my own journey.
When you pour your heart and soul into something you truly believe in, things have a way of falling into place.
Your enthusiasm attracts opportunities. Your passion attracts people.
It’s not magic. It’s not serendipity. It’s the power of genuine desire.
Sure, there will be bumps. There will be curveballs.
But remember, the universe is on your side.
Yeah, I know it’s ‘woo woo’ to some of us.
But what are you so afraid of?
Follow your Personal Legend.
Live in the present.
Embrace your fears.
And know that the universe has got your back.
It’s that simple, you just gotta keep your eyes on the prize.
But remember to enjoy the journey.
Here's to finding our own Personal Legends.
Your friend, Hunter.
