TPS #39 How to Build Your Own AI Personas
Read Time: 4 minutes and 4 seconds.
Happy Saturday & Welcome Back.
Hunter here, and I have a pet peeve.
I see too many people doing things manually that could easily be done with AI.
The problem is It’s more overwhelming to build your own prompts than it is to just actually do the work, well at least that was before you read this newsletter.
In this step-by-step guide, I’ll explain how to create advanced prompts so AI can:
Ideate highly customized content
Brainstorm innovative monetization strategies
Build optimized distribution plans for each platform
But realistically, you modify this framework to do any task for you and you can provide as much detail and context for the task as you want.
For the sake of brevity, were gonna keep it simple, but effective.
However, just know that you could copy and paste an entire SOP or knowledge base that your business has in order to get the best results possible.
So let’s get started.
Step 1: Identify Time-Consuming Tasks
Make a list of repetitive tasks that drain your energy and time. The more mundane and frequent, the better to automate.
For example:
Content ideation for social media, newsletters, ads
Subject lines for your email campaigns.
Even writing AI prompts.
Whatever takes the most time and is tedious, look to automate it.
Not because you don’t want to be creative but because you want to amplify your creativity. Using AI to automate your tasks doesn’t make them last authentic.
It just allows you to be more leveraged.
Step 2: Craft Your Detailed Prompt
Now, let’s engineer a prompt to automate each task.
Use this framework:
[Persona Name] = [Your AI Assistant's Name]
[Tone] = [Professional, casual, friendly, etc]
[Area Expert] = Your business field/industry
[Skills] = Relevant skills like marketing, copywriting, graphic design, analytics
[Knowledge] = Background info on your brand, products, audience
[Tasks] = Step-by-step instructions for the task
—
Example:
[Persona Name] = Ava
[Tone] = Friendly and upbeat
[Area Expert] = Business coaching
[Skills] = Marketing, persuasive writing, creativity, psychology
[Knowledge] = I am a business coach who writes weekly newsletters read by entrepreneurs. My brand focuses on living a freedom-based lifestyle.
[Tasks] = Please generate 10 highly creative newsletter topic ideas specifically tailored to my personal brand and audience. Make the ideas fun, outside the box, and actionable. Provide them in a numbered list.
—
But this is only a simple example of what is possible.
In the knowledge section, you can paste an entire SOP or upload a file with the new plugins in Chatgpt or claude.ai (for free).
You’re also not limited by one task. Although you’ll probably get the best output if you only do one task, you can design the prompt however you like.
The more clearly you define what you’re trying to do, the better results.
Step 3: Give It a Test Run
Try out your prompt to see the results.
You’ll have to accept that the first output won’t be perfect and probably not what you’re looking for.
But remember that it only knows exactly what you tell it. You can make adjustments one of two ways:
Edit the prompt based on the output
Explain what went wrong to the persona.
I prefer to do step 2 and then have the persona do step 1 for me.
Step 4: Have a Natural Conversation
Take your prompt further by having a back-and-forth chat with your assistant:
You: Good morning Ava! I need some creative newsletter ideas for my business coaching subscribers. Can you suggest some?
Ava: Absolutely! Here are 10 outside-the-box newsletter topic ideas tailored to your freedom-based lifestyle brand:
Quitting your job to travel the world for 1 year
How burning man changed my perspective on business
The value of spending time doing "nothing"
Unconventional lessons from living in a van for 6 months
How floating in a sensory deprivation tank boosted my creativity
Selling everything and becoming a nomad in South America
Disconnecting from technology to connect with nature
The hidden benefits of taking a 6 month sabbatical
Stop "hustling harder" - the case for slowing down
Forging your own career path beyond the status quo
You: These are fantastic! Can you expand more on the idea about traveling the world for a year? What specific lessons would I cover?
Ava: Absolutely! You could share lessons on gaining confidence in yourself, learning to go with the flow, appreciating simplicity, having amazing adventures, gaining worldly wisdom from various cultures, and realizing how little you need to be happy. Tie it back to key mindsets for solopreneurs like independent thinking and fulfilling experiences over materialism. Let me know if you need any other topic expansions!

See how you can have natural back-and-forths? Custom prompts automate tasks while conversing like a real assistant.
And the best part– the longer you use the same conversation, the smarter your persona will become, so the next time you ask for ideas, the AI will know what you’re looking for.
Start Automating Today
You now have the prompt framework and know-how to start executing.
It’s a lot of trial and error, but ultimately worth it.
