TPS #38– Boost Productivity 100x With These System Principles

Read Time: 5 Minutes

Happy Saturday,

I hope this finds you in high spirits.

I've been knee-deep in research and applications, learning about productivity and systems that could transform… well pretty much everything.

Before we dive deep, let's talk about the latest mini-project I’ve embarked on:

Building my own AI assistant like Jarvis from Ironman. The best part? I have no idea how to code. Just learning along the way. I’m having Chatgpt build Jasmin for me. (That’s my assistant’s name)

More updates to come, and hopefully, a product launch soon, but too early to tell.

For now, let’s dive into these systems principles that will (quite literally) 100x your productivity.

Onward to The Week’s Wisdom!

Tinkering With Systems Principles Having ventured deep into the productivity trenches this past week, I’ve been obsessed with understanding how systems thinking can genuinely amplify our work. For those unfamiliar, systems thinking offers a lens through which we can view our tasks, projects, and even life, as interconnected components.

The reality is, we often find ourselves lost in the endless cycle of tasks, never really seeing the larger picture. This is where systems thinking comes in to play.

Little Hint: One tool that’s blown my mind is Rize.io (not an affiliate). It tracks how you spend your time online. Enabling you to see where things are slipping through the cracks.

Here’s what systems principles have taught me:

  1. Holistic Thinking Over Linear: Rather than ticking off tasks one by one, think of how they fit into the larger purpose. It's not about the individual tasks but about the entire machine. Remember, a well-oiled machine produces consistent results.

I like to track this by checking to see if all of my tasks are related to an overarching project in my Notion workspace. That will generally give me a sense of direction in knowing if I should even focus on this area.

For example: (You can see this task is related to a bigger project)

  2. Leverage Points Are Gold: Identify areas in your workflow where small tweaks can yield significant impacts. These are your leverage points. Sometimes, it's not about doing more but optimizing what's already there.

For this reason, I implemented a “Systems Sunday” routine that I got from Ben Meer. Essentially, for one hour at the end of the week, I analyze my systems and improve them where necessary.

This could be adding AI, removing some parts, or just anything that I feel will help me in my goals. Next week, I’ll review the results and repeat them.

  3. Feedback Loops Are Essential: Build mechanisms to receive feedback on your efforts. Whether it's from peers, tools, or self-reflection, feedback helps refine the system.

Like my systems routine on Sundays, I like to share my systems with others. If you follow me on Twitter, I share insights into my systems and how I think. I use that feedback from the audience and make tweaks where I see fit.

To give you a taste of practical application: I’ve used these principles to revamp my content calendar for the next quarter. And let me tell you, it’s never looked more efficient or robust.

Deep Dive: Beyond Productivity Basics The beauty of systems principles is that they're scalable. While they work wonders for newbie solopreneurs, they're equally transformative for seasoned business gurus.

Consider this:

Scenario 1: For a content creator, a systems approach might mean creating a content reservoir, anticipating the need for future content. Once established, you can pull from this reservoir during hectic weeks, ensuring a steady stream of content for your audience.

Scenario 2: For an eCommerce entrepreneur, systems could entail automated sequences for customer communication, reducing manual efforts and enhancing user experience.

What's important to realize is that whether you're just setting sail or have been on the entrepreneurial seas for ages, systems thinking can be the north star guiding you to optimal productivity.

And if you're a seasoned veteran, I encourage you to share your insights! I'm eager to highlight community knowledge in upcoming newsletters.

Wrapping It Up

I always aim to make these letters a blend of exploration and actionable insights. Remember, it's not about having all the answers but knowing how to navigate the maze. As we close this week's chapter, here's a quote that’s kept me grounded:

"Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort." - Paul J. Meyer

Keep grinding, keep growing. I’ll see you back here next week.

Same time, same place.

Until next time,

Your friend, Hunter.
